URGENT- BEING SET UP TO BE PTS
Black Labrador Retriever male Mix - 20154/AFV3698
Intake 11/8/13 Available 11/12/13
Big beautiful, gentle boy! He came to us as a stray, so we estimate his age to be 3 yrs. old & he weighs 73 lbs. He's being super good while he's here, no fussing, no barking - just waiting here patiently and hoping for the best. Card says he is 3 yrs. old, but I believe he is older...maybe 6-7 yrs. old. He is neutered, up to date on shots, gets along well w/his kennel mate and he is available NOW

Contact Rachel Cunningham, the Rescue Coordinator at Ramona Humane Society (951) 665-0719 or ramonarescue@yahoo.com. San Jacinto, CA. Alternate contact (951) 654-8002. Rescue authorizes puller -

Atlanta, GA: Akita Cody - four years on the street, six months in a kennel,
three months at a foster, but never a home of my own - for w/in two hours drive
of Atlanta only

Trying again to find Cody a home. I just know you can help!
Cross-Posting,
Permission to Cross-Post!!

Contact: Jane at:jaskevich@mindspring.com
Cody was rescued after living on the streets for four years. He was then in a kennel for six straight months, and has since been at a fosters for three more months. Although he is fully vetted, neutered, house-broken, professionally trained, and socialized, he has never known a home of his own.

Cody only has two itsy-bitsy needs:

One, that his home be located within a two-hour drive of Atlanta . And Two, that he be the second, third, or fourth dog. He can't be the only dog b/c he follows the lead of another dog for his social behavior.

Cody loves to play with his foster buddies.   He needs to have another dog to play with and look to for advice.  He often joins in with his foster buddies to play with them.  He learns from the dog he is with.  He is housebroken and does really well when left alone
while his foster is at work.  (He does not need a crate.)

Cody has the Akita look and is very handsome, but has none of the aggression or dominance that is sometimes associated with the breed.  He does not demand affection, which is an Akita trait, but does like to get his ears and butt rubbed and know you are near. He is very laid back and calm.  When confronted with a noisy nervous dog, he acts to avoid it rather than confront it.

Cody is a dream on leash. You can walk him with one finger - no pulling whatsoever. He would be great with a walker or jogger since he is in great shape and loves to walk. His foster walks him with four other dogs all at once.  He also loves to lie in the sun on the deck and hang out!
Please, can you give him a chance to have a home of his own?  Think of the gratitude
that would be yours for the rest of Cody's life.  All for responding to, or forwarding this email.

Thank you.

Carson,CA=> Duke - 6 year old Lab needs help

In the best interest of the animals in their time of great need, please refrain from altering or removing any original information from their pleas

"Not to hurt our humble brethren [the animals] is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission: to be of service to them whenever they require it." - Saint Francis of Assisi
Hello all,

I am reaching out for help with this sweet purebred yellow lab.  His story is below but I wanted to provide a brief background of the current situation.  As most of you know I specialize in helping seniors but sometimes step up to help hard to place dogs like these "bite" dogs who are not showing signs of real aggression but rather might have been acting out as any dog would depending on their situation.  I was networking this boy and a woman who does independent rescue said she had a friend who would adopt Duke. She vouched for her, said she does rescue work herself and had recently lost her lab.  The indie rescuer rescued the dog with the assistance of another rescue who was partnered with Carson and willing to sign the bite waiver. I paid for a weeks boarding until the adopter could come and pick up Duke and the indie rescuer facilitated the adoption. The adopter was not ideal at all, it was discovered she had 60 cats (hoarder) which of course was
too much for any dog and dumped him at vet boarding deciding immediately upon walking into her house it would not work.  She contact us and said was going to take him to the shelter in Bakersfield if we didn't do something.  The " indie rescuer" bailed and Victoria and I stepped up in order to keep him from being dumped again to die at a shelter in Bakersfield.  I arranged for Duke to go to a board and train program and covered his costs. Duke has now been in a board and train for about 6 weeks because we have no where for him to go. The trainer needs him out, he is taking up a training slot.  Duke needs a rescue who can help him find his forever home. He is highly adoptable, a beautiful yellow lab. The trainer says over and over "he is a great dog". They were never able to duplicate the bite, personally I am not sure he ever did bite.  How many times do owners make up excuses when dumping dogs? The shelter never saw signs of a problem and the
trainer tried for over a month to get him to bite to no avail.  His back story is below. Below is a link to a video of Duke made by the trainer.  behavior assessment is attached. He really deserves a chance and right now I am not sure where to turn for help getting him into a forever home.  Pete the trainer said he will discuss Duke with any rescue and will help facilitate an easy transition with an adopter. Thank you for your help.

Dukes training video:
https://vimeo.com/channels/140990/page:4

Dukes story:
Duke is a 6 year old owner surrender that was turned in to the Carson shelter by his owners for "biting" an adult when a toy was being taken out of his mouth. A little background on Duke. His first owner kept him confined to a crate for extended periods of time and never exercised him. He was then given to another family, who thought having a backyard was sufficient exercise for a dog and never taught him any rules, boundaries or limitations. They indicated that when trying to take a toy from him he would not let go and would bite at them if they would forcibly remove it. Duke was networked by a group of us who felt he had been dealt a bad hand by his two former families. In the 10 or so days he was at the shelter, he never once exhibited any aggression towards any staff member. He was temp tested by the shelter staff prior to his neuter and he scored a B. Once Duke was out, he went to training at K9 -101 with Peter Rodrigues for 30 days. http://www.k9-101consulting.com/   Per the trainer Duke has done fantastic. He is an energetic dog that just needed training. They give and take toys and treats from Duke, with no problems at all.

Thank you.

PLEASE CROSS POST:

The impound is full and more coming in - sadly needing to make room
***CODE RED***  MUST BE TAGGED TODAY -  mountain curr/plott hound - female - about a year old.  Sweet friendly disposition, relativity high engery & activity level.
There is a $50.00 donation to the rescue that saves her.

MISS Molly - Well, she's a really, really nice dog according to the man who signed her over. But her behavior is unacceptable. She has two unforgiveable habits.  The worst habit is that when she is let in the house at night she gets so excited she pees. The second unforgiveable is that if they give her a wicker basket to sleep in, she chews on it. 10 pounds, 4 ounces of pure trouble.

Blk/white wirey hair pup - male, maybe 3 months old - sweet friendly cute little pup

Approximately 13 pounds, female, maybe a year old.  Dachshund mix.  She has already had a litter of pups.  Brought in by county animal control, folks in neighborhood complaining about a dog running loose.  Turns out the owner left town on Sunday, Dec 1, left dog with her mom - who had reportedly told her daughter that she was unable to care for the dog . . . but daughter left it anyway.  Mom signed the dog over to animal control.  Dog was brought in on Tuesday, Dec 3.  We will keep her on stray hold until Friday, Dec 6 just in case daughter decides to return for the dog.  Marge is a sweet and friendly dog.  She deserves a nice family.

This is Meyer.  You'll have to use your imagination on the breed . . . he looks like a pointy eared Lab with short legs. He is 18 months to 2 years old.  He weighs 20 pounds 4 oz, stands 13 - 14 inches at the shoulder and is about 17 inches from chest to rump. A lady I have known for years brought him to the impound.  Very kind hearted lady who has a soft spot for animal issues.  Her family are cattle ranchers . . . the dog was dumped at one of their feed lots.  She couldn't leave him at the feed lot for fear he would be trampled by the cattle.  She couldn't take him to her house . . . all the dogs who live there are working cattle dogs and guardian-of- the-ranch dogs; she was afraid he would not fare well there.
So she brought him here.  Then she took him back to her truck.  Then she came back in.  Then she cried.  Then she carried him to her truck again . . . back and forth, crying.  In the end, he stayed.  He's a sweet dog, kind of a sedate gentleman.  Not a barker.  He needs to get out of here.

It's only Tuesday . . . I have a bad feeling we are going to be overrun with dogs this week. Will help with transport.

Thanks

apparently dumped along the interstate. She is a yellow Lab mix. It sounds like she has had some training, and is a lovely dog!!

She already has 4 or 5 dogs herself, and cannot keep her. She is afraid she will be euthanized if she is taken to a shelter. She is young, approximately 1 or 2, knows some commands, and walks on a leash great! Loves riding in the car, and loves to play with people and other dogs!

Balta the Lab mix

Here is Balta. We named her that, since we found her on the Balta exit on I-70. She was a bit timid, but she was happy to jump in the car with us and be off the road.

The first thing the next morning we took her to our vet, and found she did not have a micro chip. She is between 1 and 2 years old, and is in great health. We do not know if she has been spayed, every time we try and check her tummy she thinks we are playing, and bounds away.

She can sit, fetch and loves to ride in the car. Today she is going for a ride along in the oil field with my husband to help work off some energy. She walks on a leash, and knows how to sit. We do not know about house training, because she is staying in our garage and backyard. She seems to enjoy that, but knows to knock on the backdoor to get our attention. She has a very soft mouth when being handed treats, and has even worked on
shaking. She can be food aggressive, but so is my Beagle, so we have always fed them separately. The two of them had words Sunday, mainly vocal, but it could have escalated. She stopped immediately when my husband grabbed her collar. She seems to respect the humans in her life, especially a voice of authority.

Balta would be great ride along dog, such as an oilfield pumper, helping check wells; a farmer checking cattle, or someone who wants a running partner. She has boundless energy, and she loves to nap in the sunshine.
