Left to fend for herself, emaciated dog wandered the streets for a month

For nearly a month, a tiny terrier was forced to fend for herself. No one knows why she was wandering the streets of San Bernardino, California, but her hiding place may have been near a storm drain; neighbors had reported seeing her roaming the area and scavenging for food, however no one seemed to have been able to safely capture the stray.

On Sunday, Faith Easdale and the entire team from  Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue were there today to capture the pitiful little pup caught on video earlier in the day. Neighbors said the dog had been chased by cats and so scared, she just ran and ran. Volunteers set a humane trap with food in the direction the dog had fled, and it wasn’t long before this emaciated and defenseless dog’s life was saved.

The dog is not microchipped, and Dream Fetchers:Project Rescue have alerted surrounding shelters as well as Pawboost. (Alert for lost pets)

“She’s so thin it’s heartbreaking and her mats are horrific,” Faith Easdale stated. “She kept eating in the trap that’s unusual.”

This is the beginning for this lost dog. She will be promptly transported to the organization’s partner veterinarian, examined and treated. She will be on stray hold for two weeks and is not available for adoption at this time.
Good work team; another innocent victim of neglect has been rescued. Updates to follow.

Surrendered German Shepherd terrified and glued to her bed

Surrendered German shepherd terrified and glued to her bed

In a heartbreaking photo, Liza, a seven-year-old German shepherd surrendered to the Downey Animal Care Center in California, is terrified; she stays glued to the wall and to her little blue bed.

A volunteer at the shelter has been visiting Liza for a week and is worried about the dog’s condition.
“…She does not want to leave the safety of her little blue bed for even lunch meat. I have been visiting her for a week and she hasn’t been eating much, always a full bowl. Too scared to touch the floor of the kennel to go eat,” Desi Lara wrote on Facebook describing the dog’s obvious heartbreak and loneliness.
Finally able to coax Liza out of her kennel, she listened and followed, but her tail was tucked in the entire time while she cautiously walked slowly. It is unknown why Liza was an owner surrender, but reports state the family was upset, and it was most likely because of dire circumstances. She had been an indoor pampered pup, and the owners offered to give the shelter money to keep her safe until she was adopted.
Check out her video – she may have a nervous smile but her heart is broken.
Miracle German Shepherd of Maine has stepped up to help. She is house trained, cat, dog and people friendly. Liza is perfect – now to get her out of the shelter safely.
Update: (A5324647)
“October 20: LIZA is safely out of the shelter thanks to Miracle German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Maine. For the first time in a week she is relaxed and resting. A forever loving home will be found for her once she arrives in Maine.”

Family kept ‘Rascal’ for 15 years and then they moved away

For 15 years, Rascal was part of the family, but when they decided to move away, Rascal became dispensable. And so off to the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys he went. Rescue volunteers were appalled; one animal advocate trying to help Rascal find a new home expressed her outrage:
“His ex-family said that Rascal spent his life outdoors (evidenced by how dirty he is); he is gentle/tolerant with humans and dogs; he has some visual/hearing impairment. Did I mention he’s 15-****years-old?”
Rascal is a border collie and Australian shepherd mix. Click here for his adoption listing. RASCAL is at the shelter at 14409 Vanowen St., Van Nuys, CA. Please don’t keep him waiting. He is reported to be good with most dogs, children and adults. He has already been neutered and his current on his vaccinations.
“I’m confident that if everyone reading this post will Share, it will reach someone who would like to open their heart and home to RASCAL so that he may experience the comforts of being indoors and loved for his remaining time on earth.”
Follow Rascal’s plight here. Share his story with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Surely this dog deserves better.

Update: Dumped 20-year-old pup who cried as his owner left rescued

What dog parent wouldn’t want to hug their 20-year-old dog? Meet Ivy, a senior pooch who was able to defy the odds of old age. His family, however surrendered him to the Carson Animal Care Center late this week because they could no longer afford to care for him.
The family was offered help, but they refused and left the shelter. Volunteers who were at the area where Ivy was surrendered said the dog cried as his owners left him behind. He knew.
His plight was shared many times, and one family came forward to adopt him, but that was not to be. The shelter later decided Ivy would be classified as “Rescue Only” and therefore was no longer available to the private adopter. Leave No Paws Behind stepped up, and on Saturday afternoon, Ivy was walking out of the Carson Animal Care Center.

Ivy walks with difficulty – it seems he has pain in his back legs. He was filthy and full of fleas.
Ivy is now safe and today he will know that he matters. He is currently at The Pet Doctors of Sherman Oaks and has been confirmed to be 20-years-old.
Hoping for the best.

Adorable ‘low rider shepherd’ waiting for a home

Try this on for adorable; a three-year-old German shepherd with short legs. Animal advocates call him a “low rider shepherd, although he likely is a mix between a German shepherd and a Dachshund. (Maybe even a Corgi mix?) Nevertheless – have you ever seen a dog quite so cute?
“I’m an approximately 3 year old male German Shepherd. I am not yet neutered. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 10/17. I will be available on 10/21. You can visit me at my temporary home at CRECEIVING.”
