Zoey is a senior purebred chow girl who was apparently once an AKC show girl. Sadly, she is now in need of an immediate new home or rescue as her current owner can no longer care for her, and just said today (9/18)  she is going to put her down if no rescue or person steps up by this weekend. We have begged the owner for more time, and have a local volunteer going there tomorrow (9/19) to get video with another dog to see if this will help. But it’s still very unclear if owner will give more time or not. The current owner adopted Zoey from someone who shows and apparently also breeds chows. The owner thought had bred Zoey and then to also have a litter, and then gave her to her at approximately age 7 when she was apparently no longer needed or of use to her. The current owner unfortunately kept poor Zoey outside in the mountains for the past 6 years with minimal vetting, although she says she is current on shots and now spayed.

Zoey was allowed to sleep in an enclosed patio during the winter cold where she did/does not have any accidents per this owner. Zoey had been recently groomed by someone the original owner/breeder sent there (before this, Zoey was heavily matted like a sheep!) and Zoey did fine with the groomer. The breeder had told me she could not take this dog back due to not having a yard. I was told Zoey has no known medical issues other than she seems deaf now, and has no bite history.  Zoey used to be around other dogs, but has not been around anyone or any other dogs in a very long time, although her current owner says she did fine in line at a clinic. Again, we are having her tested tomorrow 9/19 and should have video then which I will post on her facebook link and page below. We previously found another volunteer to meet her and obtained video with people that we previously posted in comments on the facebook link/page below.

Zoey is nice and a bit aloof at first, but is likely to warm up more once she feels safe and loved. Her current owner says she has a bad back and can no longer care for her and will be euthanizing her if no one steps up very soon. Therefore, please lmk if you or anyone you know can offer a safe home or rescue for her. A senior foundation had previously offered to assist with sponsoring medical, and we can also assist to raise funds for a reputable rescue if needed. Zoey is approximately 13.5 years of age now. Some transport is also available within a few hours to qualified adopters or rescue. Chow experience is preferred.

If you are adopting, fostering or rescuing any dog, please always verify all information with the shelter, rescue or private party you are obtaining a dog from and do your own due diligence to be on the safe side. In many cases, a breed, age, temperament is only a guesstimate or opinion,  and dogs can act much differently in a different environment.
